iOS Ends Year With 52% Share of Mobile Web Browsing

2011 ended on a high note for Apple in no shortage of ways. But in terms of the company's iOS, there were many reasons for celebration, not the least of which is the dominant market share of mobile web browsing Apple's operating system now controls.

As of December 2011, Apple enjoyed a 52.1 percent share of all mobile devices browsing the web. Despite several mobile categories in which Apple lags behind rival Android, Google's mobile operating system trails iOS when it comes to devices browsing the mobile web.

According to the latest data available, Android only lays claim to a 16.2 percent market share. In second place behind Apple for December 2011 was Java ME with 21.3 percent.

Although Apple's dominance in mobile web browsing via iOS rolls on, the company's market share is down from 61.5 percent in October. Of course, in the big picture, when you look at 2011 in total, iOS mobile web browsing has managed to climb from its 12-month low of 46.6 percent in February of 2011.
