[Review] Tweet About Applications Right From the App Store

With this tweak you can Tweet to share applications from the App Store.

With iOS 5, one of the new features that we received was Twitter integration. Twitter can be used for a lot of things in iOS such as sharing photos, sharing videos, sharing locations, and more. With jailbreaking, you can do more, like tweeting directly from SpringBoard using an invokable Activator actions which brings up the iOS tweeting window where you can type your message and tweet it. Even with the deep Twitter integration that Apple included in iOS 5, developer r_plus couldn't help but notice that Apple forgot something.

Applications are important little pieces of software that make the iDevice more powerful. How often is it that you tell your friends about a cool application that you found? Now, thanks to a tweak that has been dubbed AppTweeter, you can share the application that you found in the App Store on Twitter via the Tell a Friend button in the App Store that appears under an application that you are viewing as shown in the image above.

Normally, you could only share an application via email - but with AppTweeter, you can share via email or via Twitter, which I think integrates nicely with iOS's new Twitter integration. Who knows why Apple didn't implement something like this, but I think it's a great idea because now I can share when I find a cool application without typing out individual emails to each of my friends. The tweak can be downloaded for free in Cydia and the price couldn't be any more perfect.

When you install this tweak, there are no settings to configure and no icons are added to the home screen. When you install it you will immediately see the Tweet option in the App Store when you tap on that Tell a Friend button. To remove that option you will have to uninstall the tweak. AppTweeter does require iOS 5 or higher probably because it uses the iOS 5 Twitter integration to bring its features to the iDevice. AppTweeter is also an open source project that is free to be shared, changed, or distributed - the source code can be viewed on Github from this link. Since AppTweeter adds what I feel is useful functionality and also because it works like it says - it gets a good rating from me. I recommend this tweak to any Twitter users.
