Gamestop’s prowess in the realm of pre-owned games is well-known, but
their recent foray into iOS device trade-ins has been a resounding
success according to the company.
Those looking to utilize Gamestop’s trade in program can receive
up to $65 for an iPod Nano, up to $180 for an iPod Touch, up to $300 for
an iPhone, and up to $400 for an iPad. The trade in values fluctuate
depending on make, model, and the condition of the device. To trade in a
iDevice owners must take their old devices to their local Gamstop, and
have it “appraised” by a sales associate before collecting store credit
or cash.
Gamestop does have a list of iDevices they will not accept:
Expect to get less cash and more store credit for your devices,
and expect Gamestop associates to try to lowball the value of your
iDevice. But, for those with an older iPod sitting around, or those
unwilling to re-gift their aging products getting a few hundred dollars
for something you don’t use isn’t a bad deal. But, for those with well
conditioned iPads, iPad 2s, and iPhones, it might be more lucrative to
sell their old devices themselves.
“The velocity of this trade program has exceeded our expectations
stated GameStop. We expect to see strong post-holiday traffic as
customers trade in older models that were replaced by gifts.” — GameStop
president Tony Bartel
